Divide by 25.4 to get inches, so 0.30 inches or 30 calibre. One inch is defined as 25.4 mm since 1933 Even more technically 7.62mm is 3 lines, from the original Mosin Nagant named the 3 line rifle (The line is an old Russian unit equal to 1/10 inch)The SKS rifle is effective at a firing range of 440 yards. Its muzzle velocity 734 m/s (2,411 ft/s) is extremely powerful for its time of conception. The chrome-plated barrel extends to 20 inches on the 520 mm and 22 inches on the M59/66.
